The National Action Plan for renewable energies in Italy allows the injection of biomethane into the gas grid through a specific tariff for its incentive.
Following to the approval of the legislative decree (n.28 of 03/03/2011), Italy adapts to the European context through the definition of a system of incentives for biomethane for its use as a fuel for vehicles and/or its introduction into the natural gas grid. Therefore, the new national decree, by promoting the efficient use of wastes and agro-industrial by-products, lays the foundation of the development of a “green chain” for biogas-biomethane in terms of environmental and economic sustainability by opening new interesting market opportunities.
In particular, due to its national availability (9 millions of tons per year) and the high yield in terms of biogas production, the organic fraction of urban solid wastes, represents an optimal substrate for anaerobic digestion, reducing costs for waste management and subsequent treatment.
Moreover, the assessment of technologies for biogas conversion into biomethane supports the development of new market opportunities both for the automotive and the agro-industrial sectors.
In this context, Environment Park and ETA Florence have organized the workshop “Biomethane from organic wastes: green chains” in order to go into potentials for development of biogas/biomethane in Italy. The event is mainly addressed to the stakeholders: companies from automotive, biogas and gas upgrading sectors, potential end-users, associations for the natural gas distribution, national authorities, etc…
The workshop is organized in the framework of the GasHighWay project co-funded by the European Commission within the program “Intelligent Energy for Europe”.
